The Hermitage was a series of follies by the Duke of Atholl. Today it is enjoyed as a series of lovely walks through woods of mixed trees with suprises. One Douglar Fir was named as the tallest tree in the UK.
One folly was built to enhance the waterfall that was made famous by Turner in the early nineteenth centuary. It has been restored recently and it is a wonderful suprise when you find the door. Futher on there is Ossian's Cave, a tribute to the legendary bard.
You can continue walking all the way to Rumbling Bridge or simply enjoy wandering the mysterious paths of the forest.
Very easy to get to, it is just off the A9 to the north of Dunkeld, with plenty of car parking space. There is often a mobile cafe selling very good hot cocolate in the lower car park that makes a great reward at the end of your walk.
A second car park, slightly higher up, leads to the walks around Pine Cone point. An accssible modern folly with one of the UK's only wheelchair friendly Geocaches.
